18-hr Higher Learning Commission Requirement

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) adopted a new policy regarding higher education faculty roles and qualifications with an effective date of September 1, 2017. Assumed Practice B.2 states, “… that faculty members should have completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach.”

The University of Illinois System has many graduate credit courses available online from its three universities, courses that could help faculty meet this new requirement.  To help faculty find and enroll in the needed courses, which must be at the 500-level, we have created a quick link page of the available online courses by discipline offered by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Springfield. The quick link page can be found at www.online.uillinois.edu/catalog/grad5.asp.

Should faculty want to enroll in face-to-face coursework offered by one of the universities of the University of Illinois System, this site also provides links to the Offices of Admissions, which can assist them with on-ground enrollment as well as online enrollment.
